Transport to the physically disabled

Funding

Pobal LogoCurrently we receive wages grant assistance from the Community Services Programme (CSP) which is managed by Pobal on behalf of the Department of Rural and Community Development.

This transport service to people with disabilities and people with limited mobility started in February 2002 with the support of the FAS Social Economy programme that in turn was handed over to Pobal Community Services Programme on the 1st January 2006

The assistance we receive is principally in the form of a wages grant towards the employment of office staff and drivers whose wages are topped up by ACTS Community Transport.

We are highly dependant on this annual CSP grant allocation to meet our running costs and on the contribution fares received from our members who book and use the service.

Capital Funding

Sponsor LogosTo buy new buses or to expand our fleet, we have sought assistance with Capital Funding from various sources since we began in February 2002 We wish to acknowledge the assistance of our main funders:

  • Dormant Accounts Fund
  • Disability Unit of Department of Justice
  • People in Need Trust
  • Rapid Programme Loughlinstown / Shanganagh CT
  • National Lottery

We are concerned with the decision by Revenue to remove the exempt status from newly purchased minibuses which ACTS has enjoyed since its foundation and as a result will greatly add to our running costs.

The recent decision to abolish Mobility Allowance will have a catastrophic impact on the lives of many disabled persons, robbing them of their independence and quality of life. In addition, the loss of income to ACTS may well impact on the level of service we can provide to our members.

We welcome assistance with our annual local fundraising efforts to keep the service in existence

  • Sponsorship for Ladies Mini Marathon and of local wheelchair push events
  • Flag days at various local Shopping centres
  • Sale of Raffle tickets for our Annual Draw

We received a grant of €25,000 from HSE National Lottery late in 2016 and built it up to €40,000 by taking out a €15,000 loan from Clan Credo Social Fund. This amount enabled us to purchase 2 quality used Accessible Minibuses with low mileage in England late in August 2017 which are now part of the fleet.
